FILM TIMELINE (7.26.23)

June 2022 - The Idea

• Our team sat at Oaks Coffee House and bounced ideas around on creating a documentary.

July 2022 - Connecting the pieces

• After dozens of phone calls and asking around, we knew we wanted to highlight a story within the Chattajack Race. Director Ben Friberg mentioned to us about Kai Bartlett and his story.

• After a few phone calls across the country, there was an instant connection and excitement with the Kai and his family. We knew this was the journey we were going to highlight.

• We hired a local videographer who knew Kai well, Hayden Ramler, who helped us gather footage from Hawaii that is shown in the film.

August 2022 - Hawaii Production

• Hayden & family begin production in Hawaii

• Getting the amount of footage across the US to Chattanooga was challenging and SSD’s were delivered via USPS with a whole lot of hope and fingers crossed.

October 2022 - Production

• Chattajack Race Weekend is here and Kai & His family came in town a few days early to film the interviews you see in the film.

• We used the Moxy Hotel as a location for all pre-race interviews.

• We spend nearly 5 hours talking, getting to know the Bartlett family and filming each part of Kai’s journey.

• 148 Films had a 5 person crew covering the Chattajack Race, with designated people following the Kai Waa team throughout the race.

January 2023 - Post-Production wraps / Acceptance into 2 Film Festivals

• Nearly 4TB of footage is used in Post-Production

• All teams put in about 50 hours over 7 Days of Production

• Post-Production took about 8 weeks from start to finish

• Kai Life cuts are completed

• The Film is accepted into 2 Film Festivals

March 2023 - Official Public Premiere

• A small gathering of around 50 folks to watch the first showing of the documentary hosted by Burlaep Print & Press.

7.13.2023 - Official Public Premiere

• Our film was accepted as a feature in the Rock Creek Summer Series! It will be shown one evening at the local Rock Creek Riverside hosted by Lookout Wild Film Festival. This will be the first public showing.

7.27.2023 - Official Digital Premiere

• We realize not everyone can see it in person, but with anything good in life, patience makes it that much better. We’ll be sharing an online link with our Digital Premiere for anyone in 7.27.2023 right here on this website!
